Tom holds degrees in Accounting and Business Administration. He served as Assistant-Controller for Jacksonville University.

Philanthropy and community involvement is a priority for Tom and has included in the past: Mayoral appointment to the Jacksonville Citizens Planning Advisory Committee (Dist. 2), Treasurer of the Hunter's Mill Community Association, a volunteer continuing education teacher for Jacksonville University and the Duval County Community Schools Program, Chairman of the Hendricks Day School Charity Golf Tournament, Founder of Serving up a Cure tennis tournament benefiting cancer research, President of Deerwood Gives Back Inc. a 501(c)3.

Tom is an avid tennis player and serves as an Assistant Coach for JJVA Boys Volleyball. He is married to his college sweetheart, Rebecca and they have three children: Meghan, Chelsea and Tommy. The Forbes' reside in the south side of Jacksonville.
